Title “All about Hands”
Dr. Markus Grebenstein received his degree in Mechanical Engineering from the Technical University in Munich in 1996 and his PhD in 2013 from ETH Zurich. Engaged at DLRs Institute for Robotics and Mechatronics in 1996, he worked on the development of electromechanic car brakes until 1998 when he moved to research and development of antropomorphic robotic hands. Starting in 2000, he was head of mechanical development and was leading the development of the DLR Hand Arm System. Since 2010 he is the head of the department for Mechatronic Concepts and Systems.
His scientific focus over the last decade has been understanding human (hand) functionalities and transferring them to anthropomorphic robotic systems. Hence, he developed several anthropomorphic hands in the recent years.
